The Information Lab’s Training Day

We would like to invite you to The Information Lab’s Training Day. The day will be a hands-on training day on Tableau Desktop and Tableay Prep. The sessions will take place in person at The Information Lab’s office and lunch will be provided.

What are these events all about?

Want to learn how to harness the power of your data, but are short on time? Then these speedy 1.5-hour hands-on sessions are for you! We cover a range of topics so if you're new to Tableau, or an experienced user, there's a session for you.

One of the features of the Data School training program is getting to teach others. We've decided that we should teach YOU, instead of each other. We'll run 4x 90 minute training sessions concurrently on each track

Our sessions are hands-on, so make sure you are ready-to-go by downloading a copy of the software for the session on your laptop (you can download trial versions of Tableau Desktop or Tableau Prep).

Tableau Track

09:30 - 11:00 Introduction to Tableau Desktop

This session will show you a basic overview of Tableau Desktop’s capabilities – from how you can connect to data, understanding the interface and creating your first visualisation.

11:15 - 12:45 Introduction to Tableau Prep

In this session you’ll get acquainted with the general interface of Tableau Prep Builder, how you can perform joins, data cleansing activities, and simple transformation tasks.

12:45-13:30 - LUNCH

13:30 - 15:00 Introduction to Sets & Parameters in Tableau Desktop

In this session you will start to use Sets & Parameters and understand the difference between the two.

15:15 - 16:45 Introduction to Tableau Dashboards

In this session you will learn how to combine charts to create a dashboard by understanding effective layout techniques, using containers effectively and working with basic dashboard actions.
