Trea McElhone

Data Engineering Consultant

Originally from Ireland, with a background in Neuroscience from the University of St. Andrews, I moved into the world of data after seeing through research, how analysis could transform “messy” research data into clear, succinct, and easily communicable insights.

This led me to join the Data School, and later the inaugural cohort of the Data Engineering School, to begin my professional journey in data. This foundation allowed me to build extensive experience across the modern data stack, including tools like Tableau and Snowflake, across a range of industries. During this time, I worked with a global cargo company, developing SQL driven insights paired with Tableau reporting, as well as a growing pharmaceutical company, where I gained hands on exposure to data pipelines and warehousing – experiences which solidified my interest in, and steered me towards data engineering.

Since then, I have continued to develop my engineering expertise as part of the Core Data Engineering team at The Information Lab. This has seen me building out pipelines and architecting datasets in dbt Cloud for the telecommunications industry at an enterprise scale, and I’m now working as an Analytics Engineer for a global hospitality brand, using dbt Fusion to build out scalable, governed data models.

Always moving, always making

When I’m not working with data, I’m usually dancing. Having previously competed at an international level, I still spend most of my free time in dance classes and occasionally take part in community performances across London. When my legs are too tired for dancing, I also enjoy more creative endeavours such as baking and anything vaguely crafty - from crochet to watercolours.
