Peter Gamble-Beresford

Data School Head Coach

I have worked with TIL since joining The Data School in 2016 in our third cohort. After two years in this role, and successfully tackling placements at three large companies, I worked in our Core Consulting team for four years. In this role I worked with a wide variety of customers and tackled challenges from many different industries. I worked across the spectrum of our offerings: doing short- and long-term consulting project work, offering regular technical support, and delivering training to both customers and our own employees. Training our Data School Consultants was always one of the most enjoyable aspects of the role.

I now enjoy working closely with our German team in Hamburg to coach our Consultants in The Data School Deutschland. Having worked in Austria as a Ski and Snowboard Instructor, (and having spent one wild summer in Berlin) before joining TIL, my German language skills were once very good, so the opportunity to brush up the linguistics, take on a more coaching-focused role, and get stuck into working abroad again was too good to miss. My passion for exploring, teaching, and conquering tough projects (both physically and digitally) will no doubt assist me in helping our Data School Consultants reach new heights of their own during their training.

Summiting, spinning, speeding, and soaring

Outside of work I’m quite an adrenaline-seeker. I love the outdoors and enjoy learning new adventure sports. Hobbies include: cycling, running, hiking, kite-surfing, skiing, snowboarding, and riding motorbikes. My most recent wacky endeavour involves taking skiing to the next level by using a mini-paragliding wing to get airborne, and fly down a mountain whilst skiing (known as speed-riding)! It’s easily the most thrilling thing I’ve ever done and I’m keen to learn more!

My favourite data to visualise is location data from these various adventures - usually sourced from the activity tracking app Strava. I set myself ambitious projects and involve my friends in getting them done. Some examples: drawing a map of London by running around as many parks and water features as possible; tackling the top 100 cycling climbs in the UK; or: cycling through every square mile ‘map tile’ between my flat in London and my parents’ house in Essex. It’s not for everyone but it keeps me busy! Have a look at my Tableau public profile to see a selection of these epic adventures and visualisations!

Adventure aside, I also enjoy going to music gigs, festivals, travel, learning to play the piano (albeit slowly), and of course spending time with my family and our energetic dog Oliver.
